FREE SALMON FISHING FOR GUESTS ON THE RIVER ADD
21 LB SALMON CAUGHT ON THE RIVER ADD 30/09/08

Not only is this area rich in history, there is much more to explore. The world-famous Crinan Canal lies just three miles from Kirnan, and in the spring and summer watch the majestic yachts sail up this incredible feat of engineering. Excellent restaurants abound – great fresh food, especially seafood, is valued here – and enjoy cycling, walking in breath-taking scenery, fishing, horse-riding, golf at top clubs and sailing. The famous Macrahanish Golf Course is under an hour from Kirnan.

This is an all-year destination, with a roaring log fire in all three of the luxury cottages waiting for you after an invigorating day in the fresh air. Kirnan owns four miles of the River Add, a salmon and sea trout river which you can fish for free, we have two remote lochs at the edge of the land and can organise both loch and sea fishing. There are many family-friendly activities such as the ‘Seafari’ trip around the islands to see dolphin and seals and from Kirnan there is easy access to all the beautiful islands such as Iona, Staffa, Arran, Mull, Colonsay and Gigha. Daily boat services connect you to the islands, within an easy hour’s drive of Kirnan.

River Add

Kirnan is a haven for bird-watchers, and there are many rare species to see, including sea eagles, osprey and buzzard. The marshlands at Kirnan are home to the very rare Marsh Fritillary butterfly, one of the very few sites in the world where they breed. There is never a season when Kirnan is not a fascinating place to visit – in the summer, enjoy the warm, sunny days, in spring enjoy the show of rhododendrons, in the autumn witness the changing colours of the trees in the forest and in the winter walk in the sharp, bright days and later watch as storms roll up the glen while you sit by the fire, a warming glass of whisky in your hand!

The Appleyard family will work hard to make your stay memorable, and we have a range of special off-peak offers which will extend your stay in this beautiful part of the world. Enjoy a weekend at the delightful and cosy Kilberry Inn (fabulous food, beautiful en suite guest suites) or stay at the Isle of Eriska Hotel – this is a luxury five star hotel with stunning food and a spa. Both venues have been hand picked by the Appleyards and have the same ethos of comfort, a very warm welcome and a retreat from the pressures of everyday life.

For dining close to the cottages we’d recommend The Cairnbaan Hotel – just three miles from Kirnan - www.cairnbaan.com or for good pub grub and a friendly atmosphere The Horseshoe Inn – www.horseshoeinn.biz.

We can also arrange preferential rates for loch fishing, horse riding, sailing and golf locally and in the summer for families we hope to be running a special camping experience on the estate in luxury yurts with dinner and breakfast around the camp fire!
